چکیده

It is well known that TCP does not fully utilize the available bandwidth in fast long-distance networks. Several high speed transport protocols have been proposed in an effort to solve this scalability problem. This paper proposes S-shaped TCP (SS-TCP). The window growth function of SS-TCP is, in the steady state, S-shaped, and it can be divided into three regions. In region I, the window growth rate of SS-TCP is the same as that of standard TCP. In region II, the window of SS-TCP grows faster than that of standard TCP. In region III, SSTCP decreases its window growth rate as the network is becoming congested. Simulations show that SS-TCP has good performance in terms of buffer requirement, TCP friendliness, and responsiveness.

S-shaped TCP: A transport protocol for improving the performance of TCP in fast long-distance networks

It is well known that TCP does not fully utilize the available bandwidth in fast long-distance networks. This paper proposes S-shaped TCP (SS-TCP). The window growth function of SS-TCP is, in the steady state condition, S-shaped, and it can be divided into three regions. In region I, the window growth rate of SS-TCP is the same as that of standard TCP (STD-TCP). In region II, the window of SS-T...

Performance Evaluation and Comparison of Transport Protocols for Fast Long-Distance Networks

It is well known that TCP does not fully utilize the available bandwidth in fast long-distance networks. To solve this scalability problem, several high speed transport protocols have been proposed. They include HighSpeed TCP (HS-TCP), Scalable TCP (S-TCP), Binary increase control TCP (BIC-TCP), and H-TCP. These protocols increase (decrease) their window size more aggressively (slowly) compared...

Protocols for fast, long-distance networks

Networks operating at 1 Gbit/s, 10 Gbit/s or even 100 Gbit/s and spanning several countries or states are now becoming commonplace. More and more users have to transfer routinely between multi-GB and multi-TB datasets over these gigabit networks. There is a growing range of application domains for such massive transfers including dataintensive Grids (e.g., in Particle Physics, Earth Observation...

Teraflows over Gigabit WANs with UDT

The TCP transport protocol is currently inefficient for high speed data transfers over long distance networks with high bandwidth delay products. The challenge is to develop a protocol which is fast over networks with high bandwidth delay products, fair to other high volume data streams, and friendly to TCP-based flows. We describe here a UDP based application level transport protocol named UDT...

Application of Newton Raphson Algorithm for Optimizing Transmission Control Protocol Performance

Wireless networks are growing rapidly. TCP is the most widely-used protocol on Internet and so optimizing TCP performance is very important for fast efficient data transfer. The different existing TCP variants and solutions they have not been analyzed together to identify the bottlenecks in wireless networks. TCP has a major problem in its congestion control algorithm which does not allow the f...
